Adopt a Greyhound!

I live in Dubuque, IA, where we have a Greyhound Race Track. I've been there once about 7 years ago and I'll never go again. I feel so sorry for those dogs. When I was there, I saw one of them fall and they're running so fast that they just tumble along the ground for many feet, rolling over and over. It's just not right to do that to those dogs just so people can gamble. (which isn't exactly the most noble hobby anyway) If you have a Greyhound Track where you live and are looking for a pet, many racetracks adopt out their retired greyhounds. They do require a lot of care but I've read they make wonderful pets once they adapt to their new situation. Get all the facts first...retired racers have some specific needs you'll need to deal with. They can not be left on a chain at all because they are trained to take off at breakneck speed at anything they see rolling along the ground and can literally break their own neck if left on a chain. So, get all the info and if you can handle it, get one! They deserve a pampered existence after what they've been through. I plan on getting one myself as soon as I have a home with a suitable yard for one.

Great source of info on greyhounds
