This tutorial was written using PSP version 7.02 but should work with other versions.
It uses Selections which you can download HERE.
The zip file also includes Santa's beard.
I'm assuming you have basic knowledge of the tools in PSP and the use of the layer palette.
Included in the zip is a color guide. Just use your dropper tool to select the colors.
Or chose your own!
Let's get started!

Open a new image size 350x550, transparent background.


Add a new layer named right boot.
Load rboot selection.
Flood fill with black.

ON THE SAME LAYER.
Load rbootlight selection.
Flood fill with white.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named left boot.
Load lboot selection.
Flood fill with black.

ON THE SAME LAYER.
Load lbootlight selection.
Flood fill with white.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named robe.
Load robe selection.
Flood fill with #800000.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the following drop shadow:


Deselect.


Add a new layer named robetrim
Load robetrim selection.
Flood fill with white.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the following drop shadow:


Deselect.


Add a new layer named robetrim2
Load robetrim2 selection.
Flood fill with white.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the same drop shadow.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named left hand.
Load lhand selection.
Flood fill with #F8E2D6.
Selections....Invert.
Apply the following drop shadow:


Deselect.

With your drawing tool.
Freehand line. Width 1.
Foreground #F1C0A5, background null.
Draw in some finger lines on the hands.
Something like this: (image is zoomed in)



Add a new layer named right hand.
Load rhand selection.
Flood fill with #F8E2D6.
Selections....Invert.
Apply the same drop shadow you used for the left hand.

Deselect.

Add your finger lines as you did for the left hand.


Add a new layer named right arm.
Load rarm selection.
Flood fill with #800000.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the same drop shadow you used on the robe.


Deselect.


Add a new layer named left arm.
Load larm selection.
Flood fill with #800000.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the same drop shadow you just used on the right arm.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named rightarmtrim.
Load rarmtrim selection.
Flood fill with white.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the same drop shadow you used on the robe's fur trim
Vertical & Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 10
Color: #C0C0C0

Deselect.

The trim is slightly out of place.
So, use your mover tool and move it down slightly to cover up that bit of sleeve that's showing.


Add a new layer named leftarmtrim.
Load larmtrim selection.
Flood fill with white.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the same drop shadow as for the right arm trim.
Vertical & Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 100
Blur: 10
Color: #C0C0C0

Deselect.

Yep, gotta move this one down a bit too. Cover that red sleeve peeking out!


Add a new layer named head.
Load head selection.
Flood fill with #F8E2D6.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the following drop shadow:


Deselect.


Add a new layer named cheeks.
Load cheeks selection.
Flood fill with #DD9F9F.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named beard.
Load beard selection.
Go to the beard provided in the zip and copy.
Go back to your santa image...
Edit....Paste....Into Selection.
(You can of course make your own if you'd like, this is pure laziness on my part. Explaining how to make the beard seemed tedious to me!)

Deselect.


Add a new layer named mouth.
Load mouth selection.
Flood fill with #800000.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named nose.
Load nose selection.
Flood fill with .

Apply the following Inner Bevel:


Deselect.


Add a new layer named eyes.
Load eyes selection.
Flood fill with black.
Apply an Inner Bevel using the "Round" preset.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named hat top.
Load hattop selection.
Flood fill with #800000.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the same drop shadow you used on the robe and arms.

Deselect.

ON THE SAME LAYER.
Load hatline selection.
Flood fill with #400000.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named hat trim.
Load hattrim selection.
Flood fill with white.
Selections...Invert.
Apply the same drop shadow you used for the previous fur trim.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named hatball.
Load hatball selection.
Flood fill with white.
Selections...Invert.
Same drop shadow as above, settings will still be there.

Deselect.


Add a new layer named star.
Load star selection.
Flood fill with #C9CB35.
Apply the following Inner Bevel:



Deselect.

ON THE SAME LAYER.
Foreground set to black.
Use your paintbrush with the following settings:
Size: 3
Hardness: 50
Opacity & Density: 100
Step: 25

Paint two dots on your star button.

Now go to Edit....Copy, Edit...Paste As New Layer.
Move your second star down a bit.

Apply the following drop shadow to both stars, the eyes, and mouth.



Now go back to the nose, beard, and fur trim layers and apply the below drop shadow:



At this point you can merge and tube or you can continue and add his little list (or anything else you'd like him to be holding just put it on a layer below his hands).


In your layer palette click on your robe trim2 layer and
Add a new layer named list.
Load list selection.
Flood fill white.
Selections...Invert.
Apply a drop shadow with the following settings:
Vertical & Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 50
Blur: 15
Color: #808080

Deselect.


Add a new layer named words.
Load words selection.
Flood fill with black.
Lower the opacity of the layer to about 25.

Deselect.


Now you can merge your layers and export as a tube!

You can make what you want with your result but please do not try to make money with it!
And you're done!
